Seattle trio the Animals at Night – Comprised of Graig Markel (guitar/vocals/production), Josh Umami (synth/bass/production) and Joe Patterson (drums/percussion) are releasing their debut album, Cut to Chase Chorus and Fade, on March 15th, 2011. Cut to Chase was produced by Graig Markel, and recorded in the Recovery Room in Seattle, and Ground Control in Brooklyn, NY. The record is self-released.
The Animals at Night have been heralded as one of the most exciting acts to emerge from Seattle in 2010, following acclaim from the likes of KEXP (Song of the Day), Seattle Weekly and more. Trent Moorman of the Stranger has used the phrase “Broken Soul” to describe the Animals at Night infusion of downtempo, hip-hip and rock. Melding the R&B of Eddie Floyd and early hip-hop / soul of Gil Scott-Heron, synth work of Michael Andrews and rock guitar of Sonic Youth, the Animals at Night create a sonic pallette that is completely compelling and unique.
Since their inception, Graig has collaborated with Head Like a Kite (Mush Records), Quakers on Probation, Brent Amaker and the Rodeo, and has provided remixes for Kristin Hersh, Eat Sugar (Mush Records), Velella Velella, Head Like a Kite, and many more. Their record includes performances and collaborations with Grammy Award winning / Wrecking Crew member Larry Knechtel, Dave Einmo (Head Like a Kite), Terri Moeller (Walkabouts, Transmissionary Six, Terri Tarantula), Zera Marvel, and others.
The Animals at Night have shared bills with Truckasauras, the United State of Electronica, Head Like a Kite, Chow Nasty, Lymbyc System, Rafter, Talk Demonic, Panda and Angel, and more. The band is planning a West Coast tour in Spring.
